          Town Coat of Arms

Brief information about the coat of arms of the town of Bad Sooden-Allendorf.

The coat of arms of Sooden was apparently adopted in 1554 (second place of settlement for the "boiling pan owner" Landgrave Philip).

It displays a Pfannhaken (a kind of double hook) and a Berlaff (a kind of long wooden spoon for acceleration of the brine evaporation) diagonally crossing each other.

Below it, a boiling double-hook. The three tools are in gold against a blue background.

The seal of the town of Allendorf on the Werra dates back to 1252.

Oldest Form: Castellated curtain wall with gate/gate tower and four corner towers. Colours: Red on Silver.

The blue in later representations has emerged from aging silver. In the 16th century, an A appears under the archway. A signet of 1535 shows the A in the archway as well as a bridge arch under the gate.

Today's coat of arms of Bad Sooden-Allendorf was approved in 1931 by the Public Records Office.

It shows a pewtered curtain wall on a red shield with tower gate and four corner towers, silvery with blue roofs.

In the archway, a diagonally crossed Pfannhaken and Berlaff in gold against a red background.
