The Werratal Route
The 300 km-long Werratal bicycle route starts at the river’s two sources at the Rennsteig in Thuringia, a ridge walk and historical boundary path. The route follows the river to Hann. Münden where the confluence of the Werra river and the Fulda river form the Weser river. 10 km of the popular route are in the municipal area of Bad Sooden-Allendorf where you pass the adorable half-timbered houses, cozy little cafés as well as numerous beer gardens.
Once you have discovered this part of the route, it is very likely that you come back for the entire route. Then you can enjoy the northern part of the Rhön mountains – “the land of the white mountains”. A considerable variety of plants and animals can be admired in the former border area between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. Many pieces of art, castles, ruins or the border museum “Schifflersgrund” provide the perfect reason for a stop. We recommend dividing the route into five stages of 60 km.
