One of the advantages of a short holiday is getting to know the regional food. Especially after a long hike or bicycle tour through the beautiful Werratal, enjoying a delicious meal is the perfect reward.
Hearty food such as the "Ahle Wurscht" – a traditional raw sausage, air-dried and matured slowly - is typical for Bad Sooden-Allendorf and North Hesse. Cold cuts and other kinds of meat such as liverwurst and blood sausages or dishes with "Meißner lamb" (lamb raised in the nature park "Hoher Meiße") are further local specialties. In the Werratal, there are about 25 farm shops where you can buy regional products directly at the farm, for example juices, home-brewed beer, cake or cherry wine.
Every year at the traditional Thanksgiving and Folk Festival celebrated in August, visitors get the chance to try "Spanisch Fricco". This "national dish" of Bad Sooden-Allendorf is a tasty stew made of onions, meat and potatoes and yet another reason to come and enjoy the festival.
The restaurants and little cafés in Bad Sooden-Allendorf also offer regional food. Many of them are in one of the old lovingly renovated half-timbered houses. Of course, we also have a number of international restaurants offering, for example, Italian or Chinese food.
